Enslaved & Storm Weather Shanty Choir – At the Centre of the Sea

Share it

At the heart of Bergen’s seafaring tradition stands the Statsraad Lehmkuhl — a living symbol of life at sea, where shanties were shaped by rhythm, labour and unity. From that same world came Storm Weather Shanty Choir.

Our connection began in 2014, performing together on the ship’s deck as metal echoed across the harbour. It felt less like contrast and more like continuity — two expressions of the same coastal heritage.
In November 2025, we reunited for the choir’s 25th anniversary in Bergen, performing “Fire Marengo” and “Anna Lovinda.” What emerged was recognition, a shared lineage carried by wind and tide.

In early 2026, we returned to the studio to capture that moment — a continuation of the meeting that started years ago.

On March 27, these chants will be released digitally.
